Kolkata, India
Our team was honored to be invited by St. Xavier’s Collegiate School to speak at the Gonzaga House Day Assembly.
Our field officer, Mr. Tusar Sarkar, delivered an awareness talk to the Primary Section on caring for sick and injured stray animals and preventing cruelty through education and compassion.
It was a meaningful opportunity to expand our community outreach and connect with young students and plant the seeds of future advocacy.
Throughout the month, our Kolkata mobile veterinary team conducted 628 treatments, responding primarily to cases involving dog fighting injuries, advanced skin diseases, and road traffic accidents.
With mating season fast approaching, we are preparing for a sharp rise in animal-related emergencies. During this time, we typically see a significant increase in dog fight injuries as unneutered males compete for mates. In addition, birthing complications among stray females become more common, often requiring urgent medical intervention. We also anticipate a rise in interactions between protective mother dogs and members of the public, which can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or even conflict.
These numbers reflect the growing need for rapid response and continued community engagement in animal welfare efforts across the city.
Chiang Rai, Thailand
This month in Chiang Rai, the team were proud to host a group of students from UWC International School for a seven-day immersive experience at the shelter. The students participated in grooming and basic care for local animals, learning firsthand about first aid, the challenges of community outreach and the importance of proper pet care.
They also led classroom sessions at a local school for students in Years 2 through 6, using the theme “Hello Animal Picture” to encourage empathy and practical safety tips when interacting with stray animals.
Within the shelter itself, the students engaged in daily routines including feeding, cleaning, and basic medical care for our 50 resident dogs and cats. Their enthusiasm and openness highlighted the potential of youth engagement in animal welfare.
Additionally, on June 7th, we completed our third community sterilization drive of the year neutering 55 animals—18 dogs and 37 cats.
RESCUE SPOTLIGHT
The Desi Dog – India
At the core of our Kolkata work are the incredible Desi Dogs—India’s native street dogs, and in our view, one of the best breeds in the world.
Intelligent, loyal, resilient, and incredibly adaptive, these dogs are deeply woven into the fabric
of Indian life.
They’re the majority of the animals we treat each month, often arriving with injuries from dog fights, road accidents, or skin infections—yet they greet us with patience, spirit, and a spark of trust that never fails to move us.
Unlike many bred dogs, Desis thrive in their environment with minimal needs, and when given love and care, they return it tenfold.
We’re proud to advocate for these remarkable animals and hope to see more people across India—and the world—recognize their value, beauty, and right to a safe, loving life.

Immersion Trip
January 31 – February 14
Discover the Heart of Northern Thailand: Chiang Rai & Nan
Join us for two unforgettable weeks combining hands-on animal rescue work, cultural immersion, and breathtaking landscapes.
We begin in Chiang Rai, where you’ll spend six days volunteering at the Animal People Alliance shelter—feeding, bathing, and caring for rescued dogs and cats. You’ll also visit tribal villages and engage with community-led animal welfare efforts while exploring the traditions of northern Thailand’s indigenous people.
Next, we retreat to the tranquil beauty of Nan Province, a hidden gem tucked in the misty mountains. For six nights, we’ll stay at the stunning Pim Pool Villa Nan, a serene oasis surrounded by nature. Here, you’ll unwind by the pool, enjoy peaceful surroundings, and explore the rich Lanna heritage of this unspoiled region.
This trip is a unique blend of meaningful service, cultural connection, and immersive travel—an opportunity to make a difference while discovering the soul of Thailand.
