Kolkata, India
Last month, our Calcutta program provided 627 treatments for animals in need. Most of the cases our team responded to were the kinds of challenges we see regularly with street animals in the city: dog fight injuries, skin diseases, vehicle accidents, and other common health concerns.
The ongoing monsoon season continues to make our work difficult. Heavy rains and flooding not only slow down rescue efforts but also bring an increase in waterborne illnesses and other seasonal health problems. Our team is working carefully to reach animals safely while ensuring both staff and volunteers remain protected.
We’ve also received many questions recently about the situation in India regarding street dogs, especially after recent media coverage of the Supreme Court case in New Delhi. There has been confusion and fear that feeding street animals is no longer allowed, or that dogs might be removed and culled. We want to be very clear: that is not the case.
The Supreme Court has reaffirmed thatStreet animals are allowed to remain in their neighborhoods. They can and should be vaccinated and sterilized, but must be returned to the same location where they were found. Feeding street animals is permitted, and no one is allowed to interfere with people who provide food and care.
This decision is important for both the welfare of animals and the communities that care for them. It ensures that dogs can live safely in familiar environments, while continuing the essential cycle of vaccination and sterilization that helps control the population humanely
Chiang Rai, Thailand
This month, our Chiang Rai team was called to a local garbage burning facility — a stark reminder that open waste burning remains common in Thailand and poses serious environmental concerns. On site, we found more than 50 dogs, ranging from five- to sixmonth-old puppies to fully grown adults of breeding age.
The dogs are living in very difficult conditions. Many are severely underweight, suffering from skin diseases, and showing injuries consistent with dog fights. None of them have been vaccinated or sterilized, leaving them vulnerable to illness and contributing to further overpopulation. Because our shelter is already at full capacity with 54 dogs and cats, we cannot bring these animals into our care. Instead, our team is working directly at the facility to provide immediate medical attention, vaccinations, and—during our upcoming sterilization event—surgery for all breeding-age dogs.
Alongside this urgent fieldwork, our staff and volunteers have begun community outreach programs in local schools. These sessions teach children how to interact safely with street animals and encourage empathy toward them. Through interactive lessons and art projects, students drew their favorite animals and learned when to approach a stray and when to give them space—for example, during feeding or mating season. These programs are a vital way to build a more compassionate generation that sees street animals as beings worthy of care and respect.
Belinda’s Birthday – London Fundraiser
What an incredible evening!
Our recent fundraiser at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in London raised just over $80,000 for Animal People Alliance — our most successful UK event to date.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible: those who attended, donated, purchased tickets, joined the raffle, or contributed auction prizes. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our dedicated volunteers and to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern team, whose hospitality and support helped make the evening run so smoothly.
We were honored to have the amazing Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Kathy Valentine share their time and talent with us, creating a night of unforgettable performances.
Above all, the atmosphere was filled with joy, positivity, and a true sense of community.
From all of us at Animal People Alliance, thank you for being part of this remarkable evening and for helping us continue our mission.
2026 Thailand Volunteer &
Immersion Trip
January 31 – February 14
Discover the Heart of Northern Thailand: Chiang Rai & Nan
Join us for two unforgettable weeks combining hands-on animal rescue work, cultural immersion, and breathtaking landscapes.
We begin in Chiang Rai, where you’ll spend six days volunteering at the Animal People Alliance shelter—feeding, bathing, and caring for rescued dogs and cats. You’ll also visit tribal villages and engage with community-led animal welfare efforts while exploring the traditions of northern Thailand’s indigenous people.
Next, we retreat to the tranquil beauty of Nan Province, a hidden gem tucked in the misty mountains. For six nights, we’ll stay at the stunning Pim Pool Villa Nan, a serene oasis surrounded by nature. Here, you’ll unwind by the pool, enjoy peaceful surroundings, and explore the rich Lanna heritage of this unspoiled region.
This trip is a unique blend of meaningful service, cultural connection, and immersive travel—an opportunity to make a difference while discovering the soul of Thailand.
Spaces are limited—come make memories (and impact) that last a lifetime!
